A preliminary investigation suggests that the husband murdered his wife before committing suicide, police said.

The bodies were recovered from Pakuria Union's Malithapara  on Thursday morning, said Bagha Police Station OC Selim Reza.

The dead have been identified as Abdul Mannan, 45, and his wife Kazli Begum Runi, 38.

Around 3am on Thursday, their 13-year-old son left his grandmother’s room and found the body of his mother on the verandah, the OC said.

Locals later found Mannan’s body hanging from a lychee tree at a nearby orchard.

The couple’s son was unable to tell police whether they had argued recently or whether there had been any domestic tensions.

“No signs of injury were found on Runi’s body. At this stage, we believe the husband may have committed suicide after killing his wife,” said OC Reza.
