The incident occurred around 1am on Sunday at the Char Ashariadaha Union’s Char Bhubnapara border area, said Godagari Police Staiton OC Hipzul Alam Munshi.

The dead have been identified as Asharul Haq Mishu, 30, and Nashraf Ali Abu, 29.

“Mishu, Abshu and a few other individuals went to get some cows. The BSF stationed in the area noticed them after they crossed the border into India and opened fire. Ali was killed in the Indian border area. Mishu died after reaching the Bangladesh border.”

The other cattle traders then left Mishu’s body in front of his house, the OC said. BGB is working to recover Abu’s body.

“Mishu and Abu were both cattle traders,” said Char Ashariadaha Union Parishad Chairman Sanaullah. “They went to smuggle cattle across the Indian border. They had done this before.”
