The Dhaka Speedy Trial Tribunal – 4 announced the sentence verdict against Rabbi Hossain Mona over the 2013 murder of Sayera Khatun Alo on Sunday.

Rabbi was present in court to hear the verdict.

According to the case documents, Sayera Khatun Alo and her husband Sohel rented a home in Pallabi. Alo worked as a seamstress. Her brother-in-law Rabbi lived in the same house.

Rabbi was unemployed and often argued with his sister-in-law over his inability to contribute to the family’s expenses.

On Sept 6, 2013, Alo left the house with Tk 20,000 to repay a loan on a gold necklace she had pawned. She asked Rabbi to accompany her for safety.

Alo’s body was found near the Abbas Uddin School in Pallabi around 8:30pm. She had been struck several times with a sharp weapon.

Police arrested Rabbi after Alo’s brother Md Shahjalal filed a case with the local police. Rabbi later confessed to the murder before the court.

The chargesheet in the case was submitted on Apr 30, 2014. The court indicted Rabbi on Jul 15 the same year.
