ADC, former civil surgeon reach compromise ‘for the sake of Lakshmipur’

An additional deputy commissioner of Lakshmipur and a former acting civil surgeon of the district have reached a compromise after their much-discussed brawl which led to a three-month jail sentence of the latter.

ADC Shaikh Murshidul Islam, now an officer on special duty or OSD, considered as punishment of civil servants in Bangladesh, and Salah Uddin Sharif, the doctor who was later acquitted, shook hands and hugged each other after a meeting between the administrative officials and doctors at Lakshmipur Circuit House on Thursday.

Sharif said they removed the ‘differences’ between them so that services to the people do not get hampered.

Murshidul said, “We came to know each other genuinely when the incident was exaggerated. But the situation got out of our control by the time.”

“However, we now know and understand each other. We’ve forgotten the incident for the sake of Lakshmipur’s development,” he said.

Deputy Commissioner Homayra Begum, Superintendent of Police ASM Mahtab Uddin, Civil Surgeon Md Mostafa Khaled and Sadar Upazila Executive Officer Md Nooruzzaman, among others, were present at the meeting.  

Murshidul got into an argument on Monday with Sharif over entering the premises of a school, supervised by the district administration.

The argument led to a scuffle between the two.

UNO Nooruzzaman set up a mobile court immediately after the incident and jailed Sharif for three months on charges of ‘misconduct with a government official’.

On Tuesday, the pensioner secured bail from a magistrate’s court.

Following the incident, which was widely reported in the media, the High Court on Tuesday, ordered Murshidul and Nooruzzaman to appear before it on Dec 13. It has also told Sharif to be present on that day.

Hours later, the government initiated measures against the ADC.
