Four arrested, Tk 3.3m seized over hundi in Jessore

Police have arrested four couriers on charges of carrying hundi money and seized Tk 3.3 million in Jessore’s Sharsha Upazila.

The hundi gang was busted on the Jessore-Benapole Highway on Tuesday evening near the Shyamolgachhi area, said Sharsha Police Station OC M Mashiur Rahman.

The detainees have been identified as Anis Sheikh, 26, Jibon Fakir, 21, Enamul Sheikh, 30 and Riad Sikdar, 19.

“Police began the operation after receiving information that launderers had used a large vehicle to bring hundi money from India,” said OC Rahman.

“The four couriers were bringing the money from Benapole to Jessore. They were body-searched and Tk 3.35 million was found on them. They confessed it was hundi money from India.”

The money will be handed over to the government coffers. A case will be filed against the detainees with Sharsha Police Station.
