The woman, with whom the baby girl was found in the city’s Fatulla on Tuesday afternoon, has been held, said Additional Superintendent of Police Md Sharfuddin.

The three-month-old daughter of Mymensingh’s Jewel Hossain and Sumaya Akter went missing sometime after Monday midnight from the Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

Police said the woman detained over the incident, Monowara Begum, claimed that the parents sold the child to her.

“She told us that the mother sold the child for Tk 10,000 and even insisted on checking the hospital’s security camera footages to back up her claims,” Fatulla police’s Sub Inspector Saiful Islam said.
