The victim has been identified as 12-year-old Mohammad Zidan, who was a student at Madinatul Madrasa, close to Gulistan’s Sergeant Ahad Police Box.

The boy was murdered at the madrasa early Monday, said Paltan Police Station SI Nishat Jahan.

Around dawn, a teacher saw blood on the floor of the madrasa and called for help, she told bdnews24.com. Zidan was found with his throat slit next to the toilet. Police were then notified.

Police and madrasa teachers took Zidan to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead.

One of Zidan’s classmates, Abu Bakkar, is missing, SI Nishat said. A portion of the madrasa’s fence is also broken.

More information would be available after Bakkar was found, she added.
