Alliance Securities Chairman Pankaj Roy gets bail hours after arrest

Alliance Securities and Management Chairman Pankaj Roy has secured bail hours after his arrest in a case of illegally possessing wealth worth Tk 85 million.

An Anti-Corruption Commission team arrested Roy at his Dhanmondi home on Monday morning.

Metropolitan Magistrate Satyabrata Sikder granted him bail on Tk 5,000 bail bond.

Quoting the magistrate, ACC’s lawyer Mahmud Hossain Jahangir said: “The court has granted him bail considering his age.”

Pankaj is 80 years old, as mentioned in the petition for bail filed by his lawyers.

ACC Assistant Director Silvia Ferdous filed the case against Roy with the Ramna Police Station on Sunday. Roy was accused of holding Tk 85 million illegal wealth.

According to the case documents, the brokerage house manager submitted an accounts statement showing his total wealth was Tk 219,385,302, of which Tk 85,041,106 was unaccounted for.

Another case accuses the Alliance Securities chairman of money laundering through the hundis.

Stock market regulator Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission had fined Alliance Securities Tk 5 million at the start of this year for giving illegal loans to close relatives, including the wives of the chairman and the managing director.
