Maritime ports of Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla and Payra have been advised to hoist local cautionary signal No. 3.

At 9am on Thursday, the depression was centred about 970km southwest of Chittagong port, 950km southwest of Cox’s Bazar, 780km southwest of Mongla and 815km southwest of Payra.

According to the special weather bulletin, it is likely to intensify and expected to track northward.

The maximum sustained wind speed within 44km of the depression centre is about 40km per hour, rising to 50km in gusts.

“Sea will remain moderate near the depression centre,” the Meteorological Department said in a bulletin on Thursday.

Rain is expected to extend through Saturday, according to Accuweather.

Total rainfall during this time is expected to average 25-75mm with the heaviest rain expected in southern and western areas.

The Met office’s forecast for Thursday says light to moderate rain and thundershowers with gusty winds are expected to occur in Rajshahi, Dhaka, Khulna, Barisal and Chittagong.

It said night and day temperature may remain nearly unchanged over the country.
