Mubashar Hasan, assistant professor at North South University’s political science and sociology department, has been missing since Tuesday afternoon, according to a report filed with Dhaka’s Khilgaon Police Station.

Hasan’s uncle and BIDS Researcher Manzur Hossain told bdnews24.com that on Tuesday morning his nephew had left his home in Banasree and headed for the university. Hasan had spoken to his father that afternoon, which was the last time they had heard from him.

“He was to return home at 9pm, but his mobile was switched off since 4pm.”

Hasan was researching militancy in society, his uncle said.

“He also had some family problems. We have considered all these aspects and informed the police and asked everyone to help.”

“We have received the complaint,” Khilgaon Police Station OC Md Mashiur told bdnews24.com. “We are investigating it.”

Dhaka University Mass Communication and Journalism graduate Mubashar Hasan had, at one point, been a journalist. He completed his Master’s in the UK and his PhD in Australia.
