Earthquake hits near Bangladesh-India border

Many areas of Bangladesh, including Dhaka and Chittagong, have felt the mild effects of an earthquake that struck near the eastern border with India.

The 4.7 magnitude earthquake hit around 10:50am on Wednesday, said Bangladesh Meteorological Department Earthquake Monitoring Centre Meteorological Assistant Fahim Hossain.

According to the website of German earthquake monitoring organisation GFZ, the epicentre of the earthquake is 72km from Dhaka.

The epicentre was 10km deep and struck near Akhaura, close to the Bangladesh-India border.

No casualties have been reported at this time.
