Dildar Ahmed’s son Shafat Ahmed was arrested on charges of raping two university girls at a Banani hotel.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Noor Nabi ordered the arrest of Dildar on Monday as he did not appear in court after his bail granted by the High Court expired, bdnews24.com Court Correspondent Prokash Biswas said.

The court asked the Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate or CIID to execute the order, its Director General Moinul Khan told bdnews24.com.

"We will do whatever is necessary to execute the order," he added .

The warrants for the arrest of Azad and Gulzar were issued by the Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate’s court on Sunday evening, said the court’s General Registration Officer (Gulshan Branch) SI Farid Miah.

Dildar and Azad are the co-owners of Apan Jewellers with their brother Gulzar Ahmed.

CIID began investigating Apan Jewellers soon after the rape case was started against Shafat Ahmed in May this year.

The CIID has also accused the Apan Jewellers owners of smuggling gold, jewellery and diamonds.

Customs in several raids earlier seized a significant amount of the assets from Apan Jewellers, which could not provide proper documentation for them.

Warrants were previously issued for the Apan Jewellers owners in the cases. On Aug 22, the High Court granted them bails for four weeks.

At the end of the four weeks’ time on Sunday, the suspects’ lawyers pleaded for an extension of the bail, but the court refused it and instead issued the warrants.
