Mohammad Ziauddin, speaking at a cultural evening on Thursday in Washington, thanked the US, the embassy said in a statement.

He said despite constraints, the people of Bangladesh are extending full support to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s efforts to ease the sufferings of forcibly displaced Myanmar nationals.

Over half a million Rohingyas have fled ethnic cleansing in a month since Aug 25 and taken shelter in Bangladesh.

The US administration has issued strong statement against the Myanmar government for the atrocities in the Rakhine State that led to this massive exodus.

The Bangladesh embassy in partnership with the Embassy Series and CAF America organised the show titled ‘Celebration of Bangladesh’ through dance and music at the Bangabandhu Auditorium.

Finance Minister AMA Muhith, who is in Washington now for World Bank meetings, was also present.

A cultural troupe from Bangladesh’s Shilpakala Academy joined the Washington-based dance group Srishtee Nrittyangan in the show.
