The law ministry said on Wednesday that retired district judge Abu Ahmed Jamadar has been appointed as a member of the tribunal, responsible for trying 1971 war criminals.

After the death of the tribunal's previous chairman Justice Anwarul Haque on July 13, the post fell vacant.

A circular signed by Law Secretary ASSM Zahirul Haque on Wednesday said the tribunal's other member Justice Md Shohrowardi is going back to the High Court as per his desire. Justice Amir Hossain will replace him, it said.
