Over 430,000 people from Myanmar have fled into Bangladesh since the Aug 25 violence.

In response to the crisis, BRAC in a statement said it has joined the efforts to reach humanitarian aid to these people in extreme level of distress.

Currently, 170 BRAC staff are working in 10 makeshift settlements in Ukhia and Teknaf.  They have supplied 5000 litres of safe drinking water. As of Thursday, BRAC staff installed 54 tube-wells and 155 latrines.

The NGO has a plan to install 10,000 latrines and 1000 tube-wells by Oct 15.

Until now, 35 health centres have opened while 10 maternity centres will be opened by next week for pregnant mothers.

So far, six safe spaces for children have been opened that are accommodating more than 4,000 children and adolescents who are engaging with recreational activities, it added.

By next week, 20 more child friendly spaces will be operational.

Until Wednesday, 861 diarrhoea patients, 170 pneumonia patients and 143 fever patients have been given treatment.

A high-level team from BRAC led by Executive Director Muhammad Musa visited the makeshift settlements in Ukhia and Teknaf from last Tuesday to Thursday, the NGO added in the statement.
