Joel Reifman went to the foreign ministry on Tuesday afternoon and updated the relevant senior officials with information relating to the issue.

In the latest sanction slapped on the country, the UN Security Council on Monday banned North Korean textile exports, an important source of hard currency, and capped its imports of crude oil.

It followed after North Korea’s sixth nuclear test on Sep 3.

President Donald Trump said that new UN sanctions “are nothing compared to what ultimately will have to happen” to stop North Korea's nuclear march.

A senior official at the foreign ministry told bdnews24.com that Reifman updated the latest move.

Bangladesh, as a signatory to the Non-Proliferation Treaty and the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty, always condemns North Korea’s nuclear tests and asks Pyongyang to obey international rules.

The US envoy said every country that has a stake in international peace, stability and prosperity must take action to show North Korean leader Kim Jong Un that the international community will not accept his nuclear weapons programmes, nor confer the status he desires.

He reiterated US’s position to apply “decisive pressure” on the North, including through stronger UN Security Council measures.
