322 died during Eid journeys

A total of 322 people died during journeys during Eid-ul-Azha, traveller advocate group Bangladesh Jatri Kalyan Samity says in a report.

According to its statistics, 254 were killed and another 696 were injured in the 214 road accidents that occurred over the period.

Jatri Kalyan Samity General Secretary Mozzammel Haque Chowdhury presented the report at a press conference at the Dhaka Reporters Unity on Wednesday.

The report compiled reports of accidents for 13 days before and after Eid to come to the conclusion, he said. The report covers Aug 28 to Sept 9.

This Eid 25 died and 63 were injured in boat accidents and 43 died in train accidents, said Mozammel.

Eid journeys towards hometowns were relatively safe this Eid as it was handled in several stages, he said. There were, however, more casualties during the return trips.
