Sylhet municipal workers were seen dumping market waste into the river, a resident says
The incident occurred on Aug 13, said Lalmonirhat Railway Divisional Engineer Md Ariful Islam.
“The ground beneath a nearly 100-foot stretch on the rail track has given way,” he said.
Rail authorities initially planned to set up a temporary rail bridge, but the idea faced resistance from locals who demanded the tracks be shored up by more soil, Islam said.
“We are unable to do that now because of the current. We will do so once the water recedes.”
