Policeman arrested for ‘rape’ of colleague

A policeman has been arrested for the alleged rape of a female constable assigned to the Rajarbag Police Lines in Dhaka.

Constable Ariful Islam was detained on Saturday night after a case was filed, Shahjahanpur Police Station Inspector Abdul Mabud told bdnews24.com.

Ariful allegedly promised to marry his colleague and raped her in a hotel in Malibagh a month ago, according to case documents.

“We have learned there was a romantic relationship between the two of them, but Ariful went to his hometown a few days ago and married another woman,” Mabud said.

The plaintiff has been admitted to the One-Stop Crisis Centre at Dhaka Medical College Hospital, the inspector said.
