The attackers beat the 18-year-old and shaved his hair off at Majhira of Shahjahanpur Upazila on Friday night, his family has said.

The madrasa student, now in hiding, said he posted his poetry titled 'An Extraordinary Poem on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina' around 10:30pm on last week's Thursday.

The victim's distant cousin Shariful Islam, son of neighbour Abu Bakar Siddiki, came to his house with friends and called him away to a quiet location.

"They blindfolded me and started beating me after tying my hands behind my back," he told bdnews24.com.

Shariful told him to delete his post praising the prime minister and threatened to find and kill him if he even again posted such status.

The miscreants then shaved off half his hair. The victim has since been hiding in fear of his life.

Shahjahanpur Police Station OC Zia Latiful Islam said he received a complaint from his family. "We will take legal measures once our investigation is complete."

The victim passed his Alim exam from Domonpukur Aminia Senior Kamil Madrasa this year. His family is originally from Raiganj Upazila of Sirajganj.
