His remarks come, a day after Finance Minister AMA Muhith said the new pay scale was not 'necessary at all'. Some journalists charged that Muhith was misled by the Newspaper Owners Association of Bangladesh or NOAB.

Speaking to the media on Wednesday, Quader said, "I do not know what the finance minister has said. But he has not ruled out the prospects of further discussions."

Information Minister Hasanul Huq Inu is taking the process forward at the behest of the prime minister, according to him.
"As far as I know, 80 percent of the work has been done," he said.
