Residents of Block-G of the neighbourhood clashed with police on Friday afternoon alleging that Laili Begum, a female domestic help, was murdered in her employer's home.

Police rushed to the scene after they laid siege to the seven-storey building where the 25-year-old was employed and torched a car parked in front of it.

Violence erupted after police tried to disperse the agitated crowd, leading to running battles in phases. Police also fired teargas shells at the angry mob at one point.

Begum's brother-in-law Shahidul Islam started a murder case against employer Moinuddin, his wife Shahnaz and security guard Tofazzal Hossain Tipu on Friday night.

Three of them were arrested the same night, police said.

On the other hand, police started the two cases on Saturday with Monjur Rahman, a sub-inspector at Khilgaon Police Station, as the plaintiff.

Begum was rushed to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where the doctors declared her dead.

Moinuddin claims she killed herself.
