But one Hayatun Nabi, a migrant worker from Comilla, was among the six people injured in Wednesday's fire, Councillor Aminul Islam at the Jeddah Consulate told bdnews24.com.

Reports in Saudi media claimed Bangladeshis were among the dead victims. But ten of those killed are workers from India, and one is yet to be identified, said Islam.

“Some of the dead victims were believed to be from Bangladesh, but were actually from Kolkata. Detective agencies here are working to confirm their identities.”

The 11 workers died of asphyxiation because the old house which caught fire lacked ventilation in the absence of windows, firefighters said.
