The incident occurred in the Sadar Upazila’s Idgaon Union on Sunday morning, said Idgaon Police Outpost SI Mohammad Khairuzzaman.

The dead were identified as Mohammad Abdullah (13), Mohammad Tuhin (8) and Tajmir Ahmed Moni (11).

Two other boys, Abdul Aziz (10) and Mohammad Tarek (13), were rescued and have been taken to a local hospital for treatment.

According to SI Khairuzzaman, the five boys are from the same family and Abdullah and Tuhin are brothers.

The five had gone down to the pond to bathe when they began to drown.

“Their family conducted a desperate search in the pond, but found the three bodies when they started floating,” the SI said.
