Moudud was evicted from the property 18 days ago following an order from the Supreme Court.

“This act is completely illegal,” Moudud told bdnews24.com two hours after RAJUK workers began demolishing the house at 9am on Sunday.

“There is no court order and no notice has been provided. What they are doing is just using brute force. Nowadays it seems brute force is stronger than the law.”

Moudud had been living at the house on 159,  Gulshan Avenue’s Plot-159 for the past four decades. According to RAJUK calculations, the land is worth Tk 3 billion.

A legal battle began over the property four years ago after the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) alleged that Moudud’s brother had taken ownership of the land using a false letter of attorney.

RAJUK evicted Moudud from the house on Jun 7 after the Supreme Court ruled against him.

Despite his defeat in court, the BNP leader sought to challenge the validity of the demolition from RAJUK on the grounds that no notice had been provided.

On the day of his eviction Moudud had claimed he would file a civil case against RAJUK and the government over the eviction.

Moudud, who is a former law minister, said that two cases are pending in court at the time of the demolition.

“A writ has been filed at the High Court. The hearing for it is set for Jul 2. Another title suit has been filed with the lower courts and the hearing is still pending.”

“I believe that these demolitions, with cases still pending, are an affront to the court.”
