The message was relayed to President Md Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at the Bangabhaban by the Russian embassy in Dhaka on Thursday.
“Please, accept my sincere condolences over the numerous casualties and large-scale devastation caused by the floods and landslides in the south-eastern areas of your country,” he was quoted as saying by President Hamid 's press secretary to the President Md Jainul Abedin.
“Please convey words of sympathy and support to the bereaved families and wishes of a speedy recovery to those injured in the natural disaster,” Putin had added.
The landslides were triggered by heavy rains in the Chittagong Division from Monday night to Wednesday morning after a low pressure system developed in the Bay of Bengal.
According to the Disaster Management and Relief Ministry, the bodies of 150 people had been recovered from the Rangamati, Chittagong, Bandarban, Cox’s Bazar and Khagrachari districts by Wednesday night.
