Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in Stockholm

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has arrived at Stockholm on a three-day state visit.

The prime minister arrived at Stockholm’s Arlanda Airport at 9:45pm local time aboard a Scandinavian Airlines flight from London.

Hasina was met at the airport by the Chief of Protocol of the Sweden Foreign Ministry Klas Molin, Bangladesh Ambassador to Sweden Md Golam Sarwar and Swedish Ambassador to Bangladesh Johan Frisell.

The prime minister was given a red carpet reception and a static guard of honour at the airport.

She was then taken by a motorcade to the Stockholm Grand Hotel, where she will stay for the duration of her trip.

Sheikh Hasina is visiting Sweden at the invitation of its prime minister, Stefan Löfven.

This visit would “deepen and expand” the cooperation between the countries and would also “brighten” Bangladesh’s image in Europe, according to the Bangladesh Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Two memorandums of understanding or MoUs on the Sweden-Bangladesh Business Council and the Nordic Chamber of Commerce and Industries are also expected to be signed. A joint statement will also be issued at the end of the visit.

During her visit to Sweden on Jun 15 and 16, she would meet her counterpart in a bilateral meeting. Hasina will also meet the deputy prime minister, acting speaker and minister for justice and migration.

She will also discuss invest,ment possibilities with the chief executives of some Swedish companies.

Sweden was one of the first countries in Europe that supported Bangladesh in the 1971 war against Pakistan. Feb 4, 2017 marked the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations.
