Security forces raid three suspected militant hideouts in Chapainawabganj

The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has started raiding three houses in the Chapainawabganj, which are possibly used by militants.

The raids kicked-off after three persons were arrested on Tuesday night from different parts in the northern district.

RAB personnel have cordoned-off a house at a village in Nachol Upazila and detained a suspect from there. Two more houses at Gomostapur Upazila have been also sealed-off.

A senior RAB officer in its Chapainawabganj unit said the houses have been surrounded since 4am on Wednesday.

The suspect arrested from the house raided at Nachol Upazila's Chandpara Village  has been identified as 43-year-old Abdul Mazid, said Assistant Superintendent Enamul Kabir.

Mazid, who owned the house, was involved in farming, according to Chandpara residents.

The raids on the two other suspected militant hideouts at Gomostapur Upazila are continuing..

Kabir said RAB arrested three persons from the Upazila on Wednesday night and found 3kgs of gunpowder and a firearm on them.

The raids on the two houses at Balugram and Chanpur villages were being conducted upon information gleaned from those arrested, said the senior RAB officer.
