“We would also consider supporting their visit to India for their academic pursuits,” he said on Thursday, while inaugurating the renovated dance floor and the library-cum-reading room of the dance department at the university.

He said they may also consider visit of the students of the dance department to India for their performances and training.

“We will also consider inviting experts on request of the department for organising workshops, seminars etc,” he said.

“Students of the department can also use the platform of Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre to showcase their talent.”

“We will remain supportive to the University of Dhaka. And our support, especially to the Dance; Music; Art; and, Hindi Department will continue,” the envoy said.

The Indian government every year offers scholarships for Bangladeshi students as well as professionals under the ICC and ITEC. The Dhaka University students also become part of the youth delegation.

Apart from that, the high commission also helps students connect with the universities.

The dance department’s project was announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his visit to Dhaka in June 2015. Work began in November 2015.

The reading room-cum-library hall is named after ‘Uday Shankar’.

The high commissioner said this symbolises “the close connections both the countries share in the sphere of art and culture”.

Uday Shankar was the pioneers of modern dance in India. His family is rooted in Bangladesh.

“The hall named after him will inspire the students to achieve similar success in their respective career,” the envoy said.

Vice Chancellor Prof Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique, pro vice chancellors Prof Dr Nasreen Ahmad and Prof Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman, and Chairman of the dance department Prof Rezwana Choudhury Bannya were present.
