The end of the operation was announced by RAB spokesman Mufti Mahmud Khan at 12:30pm on Wednesday.

On Tuesday, RAB seized two suicide vests, five bombs, 18 ‘sticks’ of dynamite and 186 circuit boards for making bombs from the scene. Nothing more was found on the second and final day of the operation.

RAB had detained two local residents from Chuadanga village on Monday. One of the detainees, Selim, 45, is the brother of a militant killed in another raid on a militant den. The other detainee, Pranto, 20, is his cousin.

RAB began a raid on their homes on Tuesday, suspecting the presence of explosives and militants. The raid continued on Wednesday after an overnight break.

Nothing more was found on the scene on Wednesday, said Khan.

“Several top leaders and activists of militant groups have been killed or are in custody after the recent raids on militant dens,” he said.

“Some militants still at large are trying to regroup. They are gathering bomb-making materials, making bombs and sending them to various areas for planned attacks.”

A group connected to the ‘Sarwar-Tamim neo-JMB’ group is active in Jhenaidah, he said.

“An individual named Rimon is currently in charge of the militants in the area.”

Khan did not provide details on Rimon, but said intelligence about the militants is being gathered by detectives.

The five bombs recovered by law-enforcement agencies have been defused, he said.

In the past month, law enforcers raided five suspected militant hideouts in Jhenaidah.
