Bangladesh, Finland agree to hold consultations ‎to strengthen diplomatic relations

Bangladesh has agreed to the Finland’s proposal to hold foreign office consultations to strengthen the relations further.

New non-resident Finish Ambassador to Bangladesh Nina Irmeli Vaskunlahti proposed it during her meeting with Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali in Dhaka on Wednesday.

New Delhi-based diplomat Vaskunlahti presented her credentials on Tuesday.

The foreign ministry said that during the meeting with the minister, she praised Bangladesh’s economic growth as “mesmerising.”

She said both sides need to put “more substance” in the already “good” relations, particularly by pursuing more engagements to enhance trade and investment between the two countries.

She also said that she would continue to work hard to make Finland ‘visible’ to Bangladesh.
Ali expressed satisfaction at the collaboration between the Finnish company “Wartsila”, which manufactures equipment for power sector, and the local Summit Group for generation of much needed electricity for the fastest growing economy of Bangladesh.
He said that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina realised this need early in her first term (1996-2001) and opened up power sector to private investment.
The ambassador conveyed the invitation of her Foreign Minister to Minister Ali to visit Finland.
