The 10-foot long object is actually a ‘demo bomb’ used in Bangladesh Air Force training, say police.

“We have contacted the airport and Air Force authorities in Cox’s Bazar. They told us the demo bomb was dropped by a trainer jet.”

No-one was reported injured after the object fell on a coastal embankment near Rupali Bazar of Uzantia Union around 3pm Tuesday.

The news of the drop spread quickly and with that, rumours that a cargo jet has crashed.

A crowd of curious onlookers gathered around the metal object with four small fins at the back. A broken front glass panel revealed a camera and hardware inside.

The features led some to believe it was a bomb and one Tajwar Abrar Omar claimed it was a ‘Russian KAB-500 TV guided bomb’.

Police cordoned off the area after reaching there.

An Air Force team reached the site around 6am and was handed the demo bomb by police.

But details of the object or how it fell from a jet were not provided.

Demo bombs are used to train pilots, Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) Director Lt Col Md Rashidul Hasan told bdnews24.com.

“These are routine works. It’s their exercise, normal practice. The ISPR is not informed about these small matters.”
