The BWDB suspended Sylhet Superintending Engineer Md Nurul Islam Sarker, Additional Chief Engineer (North-east Region) MD Abdul Hai and Sunamganj Executive Engineer Md Afsar Uddin on Monday.

According to the decision, the suspension is due to ‘an investigation into serious allegations’ of irregularities, tardiness and corruption in the construction and repair of the dams.

The Ministry of Water Resources has reconstituted a panel to investigate crop damage and inadequacies in dam construction.

According to the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief, about 219,840 hectares of farmland have been damaged and 850,088 families have been affected by the floods.
