A spokesperson for the Dhaka Metropolitan Police said that Ashfaqur Rahman Ayan, who went by the aliases 'Arif' and 'Anik', was held late on Monday.

He was arrested from the capital's Bhatara area, said Additional Deputy Commissioner Yousuf Ali.

Details will be provided later at a media briefing, he added.

Since February 2015, when writer-blogger Avijit Roy was murdered on Dhaka University campus, several secular writers and bloggers have been targeted and killed.

Police say Ansarullah Bangla Team, which was banned in May the same year, was behind the killings and several other terror attacks.

Its chief Jasimuddin Rahmani is serving a prison term after being convicted for the 2013 murder of Ganajagaran Mancha activist and blogger Ahmed Rajib Haider.
