Fifty thousand families will be supported through the next month, helping them cope with damage to their crops and livelihoods, BRAC said in a statement on its website.
The NGO had previously begun relief efforts in the area following the floods, but the swift deterioration of conditions and the spread of the floodwaters have led to in the adoption of the emergency relief measures.
'The situation has rapidly deteriorated in the last 48 hours,” said Gawher Nayeem Wahra, director of BRAC's disaster management and climate change programme.
The emergency relief will be available coordinated with local government authorities in the four districts of Kishoreganj, Sunamganj, Habiganj and Netrokona.
BRAC plans to launch a long-term rehabilitation programme for the affected area and its residents in the coming months.
