Dinajpur police super Hamidul Alam told journalists at a press conference on Friday that self-styled Kurhigram ‘Pir’ Ishaq Ali and Farhad’s attendant Sayedul Islam admitted to murdering Farhad Hossain Chowdhury and his house help Rupali Begum.

The SP said that both the accused recorded their confessional statement at the court of the additional chief judicial magistrate in Dinajpur between 12pm and 3pm on Friday.

'Pir' Ishaq is said to be the spiritual leader of Farhad but the two somehow fallen apart.

“Rivalry over the ideological difference between the two led to the murder,” Hamidul said adding “the killing conspiracy was hatched on Mar 12 at the audience chamber of Ishaq Ali in Bhurugamari".

“Seven people took part in the killing mission,” he added as per their confessional statement.

“The victims were suffocated with pillows and then shot to ensure deaths,” the police officer added.

About the rivalry between the two, Hamidul said: “Ishaq Ali became a member candidate in 2008 UP election in his area and asked for some money from Farhad who not only declined to lend money but opposed taking part in the election.”

“Ishaq took Sayedul into confidence and planned this murder,” he added.
