They identified the killer as Arifa's former husband Fakhrul Islam Robin.

The move comes following a video footage that police have collected from a CCTV camera installed at a house adjacent to Arifa's Central Road residence.

Investigating Officer of the case Samir Chandra Sutradhar said drives were on to arrest absconding Fakhrul.

"In the footage, we see Arifa coming out of her house and again going back in with Fakhrul. Both of them were carrying bags. After a while, Fakhrul is seen rushing out of the house."

"We are almost certain that Fakhrul is the murderer," he added.

Jamuna Bank employee Arifa was hacked around 8am on Thursday. She died later in the day at Dhaka Medical College Hospital. The next day, she was buried at her home town in Jamalpur.

Arifa's brother Abdullah Al Amin Bulbul filed the case at Kalabagan Police Station Thursday night.

Arifa used to live on the ground floor of the five-storey building. She was stabbed at the staircase, said Inspector Samir.

Arifa and Fakhrul had tied the knot four years back following a love affair. Six months back, Arifa divorced Fakhrul, said her brother Bulbul.

"Robin was an addict and used to threat to kill my sister since their divorce. Arifa had filed a general diary at Kalabagan Police Station in this connection. Robin carried out the act out of rage," he told bdnews24.com.

Arifa was employed at the Purana Paltan branch of the Jamuna Bank. She was living with her mother at Central Road since getting divorced, Bulbul said.
