The dead man has been identified as 25-year-old ‘Rasel’ alias ‘Roni’, the son of Kumor Ali of Chaugaccha Upazila’s Mathparha.

Police received news around 2:30 am on Tuesday that two gangs of bandits were engaged in a ‘shootout’ at Joghati on the Jessore - Chaugaccha Highway, said Jessore Kotwali Model Police Station OC Ilias Hossain.

“When police arrived on the spot, they found one person lying on the ground. He was taken to Jessore Sadar Hospital, where doctors declared him dead,” said OC Ilias.

Police recovered a firearm, a bullet, ropes and sharp weapons from the spot, the OC said.

The man who police brought to the hospital around 2:30am had died before he came, said Dr Kajol Mollik told bdnews24.com.

Chaugaccha Police Station OC Mashiur Rahman confirmed the identity of the deceased and said that Rasel had eight cases pending against him and had been accused of robbery.
