The incident occurred as Additional Superintendent of Police Abdur Rauf arrived at Molonga Police Station on Monday evening for an inspection.

“The incident will be investigated and appropriate action will be taken against the constable for his insolent behaviour,” police official Rauf told bdnews24.com

The confrontation was described by Molongia Union Parishad Chairman Motiar Rahman Moti, who was an eye-witness.

The trouble began when Molonga Police Station's Constable Shabuj, failed to notice the Additional SP’s car and salute him, he said. "The driver, Constable Alamgir Hossain Alam, then got out of the car and turned aggressive."

“When OC Abdur Rafique noticed the confrontation he attempted to stop the driver. The driver then became increasingly agitated and said, ‘Sir, you do not know me. I have driven the IG’s car. The home minister’s PS is related to me. If I want I can manage all of you.’”

ASI Matiur Rahman intervened and calmed the driver and removed him from the spot, said UP Chairman Motiar Rahman Moti.

“The situation is very unfortunate,” said OC Abdur Rafique. “Senior officials have been informed about the incident and they will take necessary action.”

Superintendent of Police Miraz Uddin Ahmed says he is attempting to ascertain the ‘true facts’on.

“When a senior police official arrives he must be shown the appropriate degree of respect. However, if the situation is different if the official arrives in plainclothes.

"It is also unacceptable for anyone to threaten an officer of equal or superior rank. We are working to ascertain the true facts of the situation and will take appropriate action once we complete our investigation.”

Constable Alamgir Hossain Alam was not available for comment.
