Chief Editor Pritish Kumar Sarkar and senior expert Lana Humaira Khan of the National Curriculum and Textbook Board (NCTB) were put on 'special duty' based on the findings of a primary investigation, said Subodh Chandra Dhali, deputy secretary at the ministry.

The decision to make the officials OSD or 'officer on special duty', which passively means their services are halted indefinitely, comes just 17 hours before Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid is scheduled to face the media in a press conference on Tuesday morning.

The NCTB works under the education ministry even though it publishes books for primary schools that fall under the purview of primary and mass education ministry.

Since the government distributed free textbooks among over 43.35 million students on the first day of the year, it has been easier for the netizens to identify the errors and be vocal on the social media about the errors in the textbooks.

Referring to the errors, many are asking what the children are being taught by these books full of mistake.

NCTB has also formed a committee to review the errors following criticisms.
