DMP impose traffic restrictions for AL rally marking Bangabandhu’s Homecoming Day

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) have issued some instructions restricting traffic on several streets of the capital for Tuesday due to the Awami League’s Suhrawardy Udyan rally marking Bangabandhu’s Homecoming Day.

Awami League chief and Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s daughter Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is scheduled to address the rally which will be held from 1pm to 3pm.

In a media release on security measures and traffic management on Monday, the DMP said both lanes of the street from Shahbagh intersection to Matsya Bhaban and the street from TSC to Doyel Chattar will be closed until the rally ends.

The buses and other vehicles from the north and west of Bijoy Sarani will have to take Love Road to Fakirapool or UBL in Paltan through Moghbazar flyover via Kakrail Church and Rajmoni.

Those willing to travel from Gulistan and Motijheel to Bijoy Sarani will have to take the same route via Nightingale Restaurant.

Vehicles from Gabtoli will have to go to Gulistan or Motijheel through Mirpur Road via New Market, Azimpur, Bakshibazar, Chankharpool and Bangabazar. Gabtoli-bound vehicles from Gulistan or Motijheel will have to take the same route.

Routes for rally-goers

Motorists headed to the rally from Bijoy Sarani will have to take Love Road. Those will have to turn right to Zero Point at Nightingale Restaurant through UBL via Moghbazar flyover, Kakrail Church and Rajmoni.

Vehicles from Mirpur Road will have to go to the Suhrawardy Udyan via Russel Square and Science Laboratory. At New Market, they will have to take left to Nilkhet crossing and go to the venue through the Dhaka University.

The street in front of the Registrar Building and a lane of Fuller Road have been kept for car parking.

Those from Motijheel, Sayedabad and Sadarghat have been instructed to go to the venue via the High Court Crossing and Doyel Chattar. The parking spaces for the vehicles are Dhaka University Gymnasium Ground or the adjacent street.
