Awami League’s Selina Hayat Ivy has visited BNP’s Sakhawat Hossain Khan in his home after defeating him in the Narayanganj City Corporation election by a huge margin.
Ivy, elected mayor for a second term, brought sweets to his home at the city’s Khanpur area around 10am on Friday.
Sakhawat told Ivy he wanted to cooperate, urging her to take stern measures against drugs and terror.
“I will provide you with help if you ever need it. I hope you’ll take measures to remove the bad reputation of our city, so that people no longer fear Narayanganj,” he said.
Ivy said she was active against drugs and criminal gangs in the city. “Now I have his help too,” she told reporters present during their meeting.

“I said I would come here if I win or lose. Now I have kept my promise. I cannot change my nature. I am still the way I was before.
“I also paid my rival a visit in 2003. But not after the last election because the situation then was different,” Ivy told reporters.

This was another comfortable win for Ivy who became the city’s first mayor in 2011 after beating Shamim Osman, an influential figure at the river port city, with a margin of 100,000 votes.
