The deceased has been identified as Shyamal Hembrom, 35.

The members of the Santal tribe in the area clashed with police and the workers of Rangpur Sugar Mill who came to cut sugarcane on a 1,842-acre acquired land on Sunday.

The Santals on the land were evicted on Sunday fanning tension in the area.

Police said nine law enforcers were injured when they were hit by arrows fired by the Santals.

Four of the tribe, including Shyamal, were allegedly shot in police firing.
