In its latest bulletin on Saturday, the met office advised Warning Signal No 4 instead of the earlier Local Cautionary Signal No 3.

It said the depression over west-central bay and adjoining area moved east-northeastwards and intensified into deep depression over northwest bay and adjoining area.

It's likely to intensify further and move in a north-northeasterly direction and may cross the Barisal-Chittagong coast by Sunday morning.

It said the deep depression may cause inundation in low-lying areas of the coastal districts of Cox’s Bazar, Chittagong, Noakhali, Laxmipur, Feni, Chandpur, Borguna, Bhola, Patuakhali, Barisal, Pirozpur, Jhalokathi, Bagherhat, Khulna, Satkhira and their offshore islands .

A wind driven surge , 2-3 feet high above the normal tide, is also expected, the bulletin said.

At 12pm on Saturday, the depression was centered about 630 kms west-southwest of Chittagong port, 595 kms west-southwest of Cox’s Nazar port, 500 kms southwest of Mongla port and 495 kms southwest of Payra port.

Fishing boats and trawlers should not venture out into the deep sea, and stay close to the coast until further notice, said the Met Office bulletin.
