The bench of Justice Salma Masud Chowdhury and Justice Kazi Md Ejarul Haque Akondo issued the suo moto rule on Monday.

It also ordered the education secretary, additional education secretary (taskforce), the director general of the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education and the educational institutions to answer it within two weeks.

The court's order came after Supreme Court lawyer Amir Hossain presented before it a report published on Aug 2 by the Daily Ittefaq.

The report said many top schools including Viqarunnisa Noon School and College, and Ideal School and College were taking tuition fees from the scholarship students.

As per the rules set by the government, the authorities cannot collect any fee from the students who are on scholarship and any institution found doing so will face legal action.

The Ittefaq report said no action has been taken against these schools despite the violation of the rules.
