Police detained Shyamnagar Upazila Health Complex doctor Shampa Rani Mandal from the house of a staffer of the health complex on Sunday night, saying she was caught in an 'objectionable state' with him.

Her father Nagendra Nath Sarker said he had taken her daughter to Arifuzzaman Palash's house fearing attack by the BCL activists.

Palash's wife Sharmin Akter Sweetie said some youths brought police to their house and took photos of her husband and the doctor before taking them away.

They were later released on bond.

Shampa and her father alleged that Sunday's incident was a ‘drama’ staged following the arrest of three BCL activists in a case she had started over her assault and vandalism of the health complex on allegation of negligent death of an infant on Aug 28.

Shyamnagar Police Station OC Enamul Haque denied the allegation, saying Shampa and Palash were caught in an 'indecent state'.

Physician Khan Habibur Rahman said Dr Shampa had nothing to do with the death of the infant. She was only writing the death certificate when she came under the attack.

The BCL activists vandalised the health complex beforehand.

Her father said she had been receiving threats since the arrest of Shyamnagar Mohsin College BCL President 'Sabur', Organising Secretary Joy Mandal, and activist 'Rahmat' over the assault.

BCL Satkhira unit President Tanvir Hossain Sujon said Sabur had been expelled from the organisation.
