The parliamentary committee on the religious affairs ministry has provisionally cleared the ministry's proposal to build the 'Mushfiqur Rahman Memorial Islamic Mission Hospital' in Sirta village.
According to the minutes of the committee's meeting on Thursday, the work to build the hospital was under way.
The panel's chief Bazlul Haque Haroon told reporters, "The minister's son has died. His emotions are involved with the matter. So he has wished to name the hospital after his son."
"The committee has approved the minister's proposals. The Islamic Foundation will fund the construction of the hospital," he added.
Matior's son Mushfiqur Rahman Shuvo, a doctor by profession, died in a road traffic accident in Bhaluka four years ago.
The parliamentary panel on Thursday also discussed this year's Hajj travels.
A total of 10,000 pilgrims are going to Saudi Arabia to perform the pilgrimage under government arrangements while around 92,000 are going through private agencies.
The committee questioned the ministry's decision to task the Hajj Agencies Association of Bangladesh (HAAB) with supplying around 5,000 trolley bags for the pilgrims.
The panel said the government would be blamed for any irregularities by HAAB in supplying the bags.
Haroon said the ministry replied that the supply process had already started but it would amend the related guidelines later.
