Man drowns in a Dhaka canal after rescuing two youths

A pickup driver has drowned in a canal in Dhaka’s Badda after rescuing two youths from drowning.
Police said ‘Sarwar’, 29, had gone missing in Damai Canal near Benait Bridge No. 3 around 12:30pm on Monday. He lived in North Badda.
Badda police OC MA Jalil told bdnews24.com that Sarwar’s body was recovered around 5pm.
“Nine youths were playing football on a field beside the canal around noon. Two of them went there to get the ball when it had fallen on the canal. But they started to drown.
“Sarwar jumped in and saved them. But then he drowned when he tried to recover the ball.”
OC Jalil said Fire Service personnel found the man’s body around four and a half hours after he had gone missing.
