The parliamentary standing committee on planning ministry formed a three-member subcommittee for this on Thursday.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated a portion of the country’s longest flyover on Wednesday.

The estimated cost of building the eight-kilometre flyover is Tk 12.19 billion. The project has been extended thrice.

The flyover plan has raised concern and criticism, as experts fear it may increase commuter suffering.

They said the flyover, designed more than a decade ago by foreign engineers with left-hand driving in mind, had several faults, including on the ramps.

Headed by Md Tajul Islam, the body has Shamsul Hoque Chowdhury and Mohibur Rahman Manik as its members.

The release says ‘terrible’ gridlocks occur at both ends of flyovers in Dhaka because of design flaws, causing enormous suffering to commuters.

“So, a panel has been formed to check whether the Moghbazar-Mouchak flyover plan, too, has problems and who is responsible for them,” it said.

Islam told bdnews24.com: “There have been talk about the Moghbazar-Mouchak flyover. We want to see who planned it and how. We will see if it can be made a little longer.”

“We will also review the other flyover projects also,” he added.
