Celebrated film actress Parveen Sultana Diti has been laid to rest at the family graveyard at Narayanganj’s Sonargaon.
Her Namaz-e-Janaza (funeral prayer) was held at the local mosque near her home at Sonargaon’s Dattaparha village after Monday’s midday prayers.
Sonargaon Police OC Md Manzur Quader, who was present at the janaza, said Diti was buried next to her father Abul Hossain and mother Nurjahan Begum’s graves.
Her remains were brought to the village at around 11am as relatives, villagers, and fans waited to pay their last respect to her.
The famed silver screen idol had been diagnosed with brain tumour at India’s Madras Institute of Orthopaedics and Traumatology. She underwent a successful surgery after being admitted there on July 25, 2015.
But she continued to be ill after the operation and had been given chemotherapy. She was admitted to United Hospital on her return to Dhaka.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina had handed over a cheque for Tk 1 million to her children after they returned from New Delhi.
